A New Year’s Prayer

God, you came. You came as our Rescuer, our Hero, and you promised and did and will make all things new. We’ve celebrated your coming, and we rejoice today that you do indeed make things new. As we embark on this new year, with anticipation we ask You to

God, you are faithful
help me to learn from your faithfulness this year as I seek to serve you and obey your commands. Make me faithful.

God, you are real love
help me to emulate your love in its perfect patience, its boldness, its complete concern over other’s welfare.

God, you are Creator
help me as an image-bearer to find the life-giving grace You give through emulating your character in creating.

God, you are King
help me to live as a citizen of Your kingdom, however counter or cross cultural that may be.

God, you are just
help me to pursue justice and fight darkness with every breath You give me.

God, you are completely whole
help me to find my satisfaction and completion in you and to fight the brokenness in and around me until you come and rescue us once and for all.

Amen! Thank you! While in some ways it seems like 2016 was a difficult year, I am reminded in Psalm 40:5:
Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order. If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered!
